I Wish

Sometimes I wish I could write like the greats
That I could spit mad metaphors
and slick similes
And have the crowd be feeling me
That I could make some statement
with a foundation rocking political basis
that i could comment on social injustice
make people think and take notice
change someone's perspective on life
give them a reason to fight the strife



I wish I could right a "you can make it"
A "you're worth it"
A "you're the greatest"
Give someone inspiration
I wish I could find the words to give someone faith in something
Something to believe
I wish I could make them see
What their life should be

I wish I could speak
In such a way
that people saw Him in me
A way to make them understand belief
in something they cannot see
cannot know can be

I wish I could speak to the human condition
About all the things this world is missing
about the sad state of this existence
About the downfall of selfish ambitions

But I cannot speak on any of these things
Because I don't have the words
I don't have the voice that will make me be heard

I am not one of the greats
And I don't write meaty metaphors
Or spit-slick similes
To make people listen to me
Make the crowd be feelin me
All I have is this paper and pen
And my honesty ....
