Lately it seems
Like it's the season
of Graves
Death paid us a visit
And decided to extend her stay
That black dress
Is in the front of the closet
Instead of the back
Everyone's worried
Over who's going to be next
Because SHE is not prejudice
She takes the young and the old
The weak and the strong
The meek and the bold
The innocent and those who've done wrong
Sometimes there's a warning
But most times there's not
So we pull on our somber dresses
Pick up flowers and cakes
Sing, "On that morning"
Let our tears water graves
Then sit around
And talk about how "life's too short for us to be living this way"
But after awhile
We go on living that same way
Until we get word again
That Death's stolen another
Relative or Friend
And it all begins again
But right now it feels like
It never ends
And I never stop saying good-bye
To family and Friends
And I can't say it doesn't hurt
That there's not a rip in my soul
Everytime I see a casket
Holding someone younger or older
And I can't help but wonder
When my time will be
If Death is outside my door
Waiting for me
