This isn't a bitter poem
It's an apology
I saw what I thought was a spark
and started writing poetry
because how could a guy like you
be feeling a girl like me
yes that deserved some poetry
and every once in a while when you did something right
I needed to point it out for the whole world to see
see
"he really does care about me"
And when you did wrong
well I
I just wrote more poetry
wrote of who I wanted you to be
Of what I wanted you to say
I was so sure you wanted to feel the way
that I was feeling too
so certain
that if you just had the words of a poet
those words you would use
on me
for me
so I just continued writing poetry
telling you you made me feel
the way I wanted you to make me feel
until it was that way I felt
instead of figuring out what was real
I fed you the lines
you would have been a fool not to catch me
when it was myself I was deceiving
not to trap me
in a web of my own weaving
I taught you how to love me
All you had to do was read my poetry
I gave you every answer to the test
All I asked for in return
just lessons
on how to love you best
I wasn't asking for flowery poetry
Just hints
I could handle the rest
but you wouldn't even give me that
I guess what they say is true
When you haven't worked hard for something
You respect it less
No this isn't a bitter poem
This is an apology
I should have made you work harder for me
Instead of letting you read my poetry
It let you see too much of me
So this is the last poem you'll be getting from me
This is the last poem you'll be getting from me
